The Isle of Man Heavy Horse Society held its inaugural meeting on the 21st November 1983 at the Palace Hotel in Douglas. It was convened by the late Sir Charles Kerruish who outlined his reasons for calling the meeting, and stressed that it was to provide an opportunity for those interested in Heavy horses to decide whether or not an appropriate organisation should be set up in the Isle of Man to further the combined interests of all enthusiasts. The first official meeting was held on the 21st January 1984 to elect officials and set out the aims of the Society. Today the Society consists of a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer and approximately 30 members. Most of our members do own Heavy Horses, but we welcome new members whether they are a horse owner or not.

Our main event is our Fun Showing Day, held in May each year - but there is also a Treasure Hunt, and other social events during the year. Some of our members compete at the two local agricultural shows held in the summer, and also at local ploughing matches held over the winter months.
