I am known as Frank. I am a Full time General Practitioner at Snaefell Surgery on the Isle of Man. I started General Practice in 1990 whilst still in the Royal Air Force. It was about that time that I developed an interest in Complimentary medicine. I trained with the British Medial Acupuncture Society in 1991 and started treating patients with Acupuncture that year. I also trained in Orthopaedic Medicine in 1992; this branch of medicine involves manipulation, injection techniques and physiotherapy techniques for the treatment of soft tissue injuries and non-arthritic causes of joint pain. This complements well with acupuncture and hence for many years I treated sportsmen in the RAF. I set up sports clinics in the Air Force at several Stations. I now run a private Acupuncture clinic at my surgery every week. A leaflet about this can be obtained from this site. In recent years I have also completed training as a Homeopathic GP and have completed 4 years training in this. I also have an interest in and passing knowledge of Aromatherapy and Phytotherapy (herbal medicine). I am also a fully qualified clinical Hypnotherapist having passed the MDCH (Medical Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy) a few years ago. Even though I do not have the time to use this skill it has given me a greater depth of understanding of psychological treatments which is useful in General Practice and in dealing with sportsmen. In sports you can improve your performance with visualisation etc, of course golf was the first sport to recognise the importance of this. Currently I am learning to use an Ultrasound machine to help with the Diagnosis of Musculoskeletal injuries.
I am now the
Medical Officer for the IOM Institute of
Sport/Sports Foundation, Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Team, and the
Isle of
Man Island Games team for whom I provide screening, medical advice and
treatment to Sports men/women involved. I am the Chief Medical Officer
for the 2010 Commonwealth Youth Games which will be held at the island
in the Autumn of 2010. I am also the Area Doctor for the LTA
(Lawn Tennis Association). Should you need advice or treatment, for a
sporting
injury please gives me a call.

I have been running a acupuncture clinic at my current
practice now since 1996, prior to this I ran Acupuncture clinics at all my
previous practices since 1991. As I practice Western Acupuncture you may find
the process of selecting points different if you have seen a traditional
Chinese medicine trained acupuncturist.
I mainly concentrate on treating painful conditions such as spinal pain,
hip, knee pain etc. I also use acupuncture a lot in sportsmen as they can often
continue their sport during the treatment, as well as having the advantage of
not being on any banned drug lists. Acupuncture can also be used for Irritable
Bowel Disease, Migraine, Hay Fever, Chronic Sinusitis, Giving up Smoking. For
more information read my leaflet.
Should you wish to give up Smoking than please book to
see me for a treatment session and cessation counselling/advice.
You can download the clinic leaflets on my download page.
To Book an appointment just email, or call the
surgery. Each session is pay as you go, prices below.
